Favor
Favor is perhaps the worst named concept available in the worlds. It's a linear measure of a character's devotion to (and therefore power in) a given Attunement. It'd be just as correct to refer to it as Devotion, or any of a hundred more accurate terms for any given Attunement - Biomancers don't advance in power because their CO's like them, for example, they advance as they get better at biosphere manipulation - but some very large, very prominent Attunements use the term and it just spread from there.
Your character accumulates Favor for staying on the path their Attunement defines. Your Biomancer gains favor for killing off the Enemies of Humanity and for making people's lives better. Your Black Tower Guardian gains Favor for improving Lord Zilicus' image among the residents of the worlds. Every Attunement has something it wants, long term, and you're awarded Favor for helping that long. You can pick up extra Favor for going above and beyond the day to day expectations of your organization - missions specifically undertaken to advance the cause, going out of your way to do or stop something that the Attunement does or doesn't want, things along those lines. Usually, you'll get 2 Favor for a given weekend event. If your roleplay is better than average regarding your Attunement, you can get a third, and if you're involved in something specific for your org, you might get a fourth. Four is the practical cap for a given event and even four is rare. 2 is essentially automatic unless you're out of whack with your Attunement. 3 is fairly common.
You can, of course, lose Favor too. You can make all kinds of bad, anti-social decisions or support others making those decisions that run directly counter to your Attunement's philosophy and goals. If that loss of Favor brings you down a Rank, the Attunement power for that rank goes dormant until you manage to climb back up the ladder. With few exceptions, those Favor losses are delivered by fate, not by your CO - your superiors can make your life suck in all kinds of ways but can't usually strip Favor off your sheet. That's a karmic decision made by the metaverse, not a punishment handed down by some suck-job officer that just doesn't get you.
