It is an easy task for many to go without magical relics or mountains of gold but it is far another to remove the bondage of all material things. Those few that have begun to separate themselves from the bondage of the material begin to view the world in a new way. It is not until one has been truly without that one begins to see how little many of this world have. Even a skilled farmer becomes removed from the lowest of society who can barely eat or find shelter. There is only so much in this world to go around, and because of this greed finds its way into the hearts of even the kindest of souls. The need to survive drives many to hoard more than they might really need for fear of the flood. Then there are those few who chosen a life of poverty, unlike the poor and downtrodden, these souls walk this path by their own choice; so that others may flourish. In many cultures and belief systems, the height of purity is embodied in an ascetic lifestyle that involves forswearing all material possessions.
